EMDR Therapy in Kansas City

Evidence-based trauma therapy for clients across the Kansas City metro

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps the brain process traumatic memories so they no longer feel as charged or intrusive. It uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, tapping, or sound, while you think briefly about the memory. EMDR is recognized by the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for PTSD.

Conditions EMDR can help with

EMDR is most known for trauma and PTSD. It is also used for anxiety, panic, phobias, depression, grief, performance blocks, and complicated life events that keep getting reactivated. People often see meaningful change in fewer sessions than they expected.

What an EMDR session feels like

You and your therapist identify a specific memory or theme to work with. While you bring it briefly to mind, you follow your therapist’s hand, watch a moving light bar, listen to alternating tones, or tap left and right on yourself. The session moves between this processing and short check-ins. Most people leave a session feeling tired and noticeably different about the memory.

EMDR by telehealth

EMDR works well over secure video. Clients in Kansas and Missouri can receive EMDR telehealth sessions from anywhere in those states.
